Just so there’s little confusion, Duromax offers two generators in their XP13000 lineup. The first is the XP13000E, which is a gasoline-only generator and the second is the XP13000EH, which is a dual, gas and propane generator.
This review will cover the dual generator XP13000EH. Either way, however, it’s a powerful generator and, as generators go, very budget-friendly considering everything that you get from this monster that runs on two fuels. There’s a reason so many so many say this generator is in a league of its own.

Dual-fuel generators are becoming more and more common and Duromax has been one of the brands leading the way. So how does the Duromax XP13000EH stack up, especially following the highly-rater XP12000 version?

Is the Duromax XP13000EH Worth It?
There’s no doubt that it’s worth it, as the XP13000EH is both incredibly powerful and shockingly affordable. In fact the previous iteration, The Duromax XP12000 was very highly rated, and this one is a step up in every way from its predecessor.
Like the 12000 and 15000 variations, it runs on either propane or gasoline, so if you load it up with both, you can get an easy 15-hours’ worth of work out of it. Plus, the amount of power you can get out of it, even at 50% load can run a lot of necessary appliances in your home.
It’s a little on the heavy side at 234lbs, but you can wheel it around if you have the lower back for it and once you have it in position, it’s rated to run for 8 and a half hours on gas and 6 and a half hours on propane.
You can easily switch between the two as well, with the simple push of a button. It’s nice to have a dual option, especially with the surging price of gasoline right now. It also comes with 5 outlets of varying types, so you can plug anything into it just about.
If you’re worried about having only 2, common household plugs, this bad boy can handle an external, multi-outlet without a problem.

How Long Will the Duromax XP13000EH Last?
Your standard generators are expected to last anywhere between 1,000 and 2,000 hours before it’s time to retire them and send them through the recycler or drop them off at the dump.
Those are standard generators, however, and Duromax has a bit of a reputation to uphold. More premium generators should give you around 3,000 hours of use before they kick the bucket. If you maintain them very well, they may even last you a whole lot longer.
Of course, the key to longevity is preventative maintenance and if all you do is drag the Duromax out when needed and shove it back in the dust bin when you’re finished, it may not even give you three years.
In terms of warranty coverage, Duromax guarantees their generators for three years, as far as original parts failing that is. If you never change the oil in the thing, you can expect Duromax to not honor the warranty.
With preventative maintenance and careful inspections before and after use, you can expect to get your 3,000 hours and probably much more. It’s like any other engine, or a car engine for that matter, the more you take care of it, the more it will take care of you.

Can the Duromax XP13000EH Power a Refrigerator?
Not only can it run a refrigerator, but it could also run multiple refrigerators that are all starting up at the same time. Many of your standard generators are simply too ill-equipped to maintain a fridge.
The reason for that is that a large refrigerator, when it turns on the condenser, peaks at around 2,000 watts. However, the Duromax is a 13,000W generator and even though it runs at lower wattage, the 13,000 number stands for how much “surge” or starting watts it can handle.
In other words, you could have four 2,000W refrigerators that all start up at the same time, and a Duromax XP13000EH wouldn’t bat an eye or flinch. It’s a true powerhouse of a generator that can almost run your entire home.
In fact, it could run an entire home, if it were a small home. Hooking up many of your appliances would certainly put a strain on it and lower its longevity before refueling, however, it could handle it.

Why We Like the Duromax XP13000EH
One thing that makes liking this generator so easy, is its price. You can do a comparison shop with other generators at similar capacities and learn, really quickly, why this generator is very budget-friendly.
And, it’s not as if Duromax cut any corners here. They have a history of providing quality, long-lasting generators at an affordable price. Logic says that something has to be amiss here. The problem is, there’s nothing amiss that you couldn’t easily go without.
Sure, it probably lacks some of the high-tech features of its competitors, but do you really need a 1080p LCD display to tell you the current fuel level or will the fuel gauge suffice? It’s also a potent and dependable generator. That’s always hard to ignore.
There are plenty of outlets on it, it has quiet run technology, dual-fuel technology, and comes with all of the bells and whistles that you expect to get from a premium generator that can kick out 13,000W. In short, what’s not to like?
What Can a 13,000 Watt Generator Run?
An awful lot. The only appliances that would put a serious drain on any generator would be your dryer, refrigerator, and AC unit. Depending on the AC unit and fridge, the maximum surge you’re going to get will be around 2,000 Watts, which this Duromax is more than capable of handling.
This is the perfect generator for running multiple appliances while still retaining the capability of charging your cell phones, keeping some lights on, running your box fans, turning on your TV, and powering up your router.
One thing that many people don’t realize, especially in terms of power outages and needing to get the news, is that cable and fiber are typically unaffected by power outages and if you use your Duramax to get the modem/router up, you’ll have internet.
How Long Will a 13000W Generator Run on Propane?
As far as the Duromax XP13000EH is concerned, you can run it on propane for 6.5 hours. Now, every generator is different and one of the cons of the Duromax is its average runtimes.
Knowing that, you can expect a 13000W generator to run on propane for anywhere between 6.5 hours and 8.5 hours of time. The good thing about the Duromax—and all propane generators for that matter—is the fact that you can hook up as large a tank of propane as you want.
If you have a 100lb propane tank, you can definitely take advantage.
What options do I have to prevent the propane tank from freezing at night?
In my experience, the best thing to do in this situation is to reduce the pressure on the tank if you experience freezing. Get a 40lb or even a 100lb tank and your freezing problems will be a thing of the past.
What Our Readers Say
Although we personally test every generator we review on this website, don’t just rely on our recommendation. Thousands of our readers have also provided us with their valuable input on what they did and didn’t like about this generator.
John from Arizona messaged us to say “A 20lb tank will last roughly 8 hours. I’ve connected a generator to back feed into the entire house, which will power two freezers, two refrigerators, all interior and external lighting, and security cameras. This has been a great purchase for us.”
Paul from Florida provided his opinion stating “We bought this generator because we didn’t want to be without water or air conditioning in Florida following Hurricane Matthew last year. Because of Hurricane Irma, we had to utilize it, and based on our experience so far, we think it’s a terrific tool for storm preparations.”
Final Thoughts
You really have to nitpick to find reasons to not like the Duromax XP13000EH. It’s an outstanding, dual-fuel generator that is built to last and can run several different appliances at once, without overstraining itself.
The cost is one of the biggest factors as well. The pandemic has taken a lot of money out of a lot of wallets and in a time where people just don’t have as much money as usual—especially those who live in natural disaster areas—an affordable generator can literally be a lifesaver.
